The Playwrights Collective Competition

Open to More Playwrights!

An exciting playwriting contest opportunity
for plays that have already had a non-professional production!

Playwrights entering the contest
must be a resident of:

one of the New England States

New York

New Jersey,

or

Pennsylvania

The Playwrights Collective is seeking for its competition new and original plays which have already had a non-professional production, a staged reading, or a reading.  The idea behind this is to provide another forum for quality scripts which are not well-known, as well as to expose our audiences to a higher caliber of theatrical experience.  The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts is located in Brookfield, CT, adjacent to the arts-rich northwestern section of the state, home of  the Litchfield Jazz Festival, the Warner Theatre, The Nutmeg Ballet Company, and numerous art galleries.

Entries must be new, original  full-length plays which HAVE previously had a non-professional production, reading, or staged reading within the past five years.

NO musicals, children's, adaptations or translations, one-acts.

Cast limited to no more than 8 characters.

Chosen scripts will receive a reading at the Brookfield Theatre for the Arts in Brookfield, CT throughout the 2003-2004 season.  A talk-back will follow each reading.  Playwrights are encouraged to attend the reading of their plays.

Of the chosen scripts a first place prize of $300  will be awarded after all of the plays have had a reading.  The winning first place play will receive a staged reading in the fall of 2004 at The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts.

The following should be submitted:

Full manuscript with one-page synopsis (manuscript should be typed in the standard format and bound in a three hole cover)

Play's production history

Cast list

bullet

Resume

bullet

SASE for the return of the script.  The envelope must be able to accommodate the script, and the postage must be sufficient or else the script will not be returned.

SASP if you want confirmation that we have received your script.

bullet

$10 entry fee (checks made out to Playwrights Collective of The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts).

Submissions which do not include all of the
requested material or which fail to follow the guidelines
will not be considered.

Submissions which do not include a SASE
with the appropriate postage will not be returned.
